We assist pregnant young women who are ready to make a new start and make positive changes in their lives. We help girls and women who need a safe and loving place to stay and who want a chance to make good choices for them and their children.
How old do I have to be to live at Morning Star?
As a general rule, we accept women ages 13 to 25. We will interview women of all ages to assess individual situations.
Where is the Morning Star Maternity Home located?
We are located in Southeastern Pennsylvania, approximately one hour North West of Philadelphia.
What is the home like?
Our home is located in a small town in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The home can house up to 4 women. It has a living room where you can enjoy yourself, watch TV or read a book; a dining area for family-style meals and 3 bedrooms that offer either private or shared accommodations depending on the number of residents. Morningstar is staffed with 24-hour house parents.
At what point in my pregnancy can I come to Morning Star?
You can come to the Morning Star Maternity Home at any time during your pregnancy, depending on the individual situation. Over the years we have found that the program works best for those who come to us during the first trimester of their pregnancy.
How long can I stay after my baby is born?
During your time at Morningstar, we work with you on developing a plan for after the birth of the baby. Our goal is for the mother to complete the program upon the birth of the baby. The length of stay after your baby is born will vary based on your individual life circumstances. Normally, mother and baby do not return to the Maternity Home once released from the hospital after giving birth.
Where would I get medical care?
Women come to Morning Star from various circumstances. We work with each individual to determine the best approach for her and her baby. Over the years we have developed a relationship with our local hospital and their prenatal program which includes board-certified OB/GYN physicians, specially trained nurses, social workers, dietitians and educators.
Is it possible to continue my education while at Morning Star?
Educational efforts are highly encouraged if you have not yet completed high school. Options include attending a local public school, taking correspondence classes, taking courses online, and working towards a GED.
If I already have children, can I bring them with me?
Unfortunately, Morning Star is not equipped to house families at this time.
How much does it cost to stay at Morning Star?
No one is ever turned away due to lack of money. Each woman’s circumstances and ability to contribute to her room and board will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
How is Morning Star funded?
As a not-for-profit corporation designated by the IRS as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3), we rely on the generosity and kindness of others. We welcome your financial support and generosity as we serve young mothers and their children by promoting a culture that values life.
Is the home open to women of all faiths?
Yes, our doors are open to women of all faiths. Women are expected to participate in grace before meals, Bible studies, and to attend church on weekends.
Who should I talk to about coming to live at Morning Star?
You may contact our office by phone, email, or letter to inquire about the maternity Home. An appointment can be made to visit the home first if you wish. Each woman is asked to complete an application form, participate in an interview and agree to the policies before being considered for admittance.
